Bennett Road Public School is located in Colyton and has a current enrolment of 602 students including 15% who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. The school employs an Aboriginal Education Officer to support learning for our Aboriginal students. There are 26 mainstream classes, 5 fully integrated support classes, 3 of which cater for multi-categorical disabilities, 1 mild intellectual class and 1 behavioural and emotional disturbance class. The school applies principles of Positive Behaviour for Learning, with high expectations for student engagement and achievement. 

About the role

The Student Learning Support Officer - Aboriginal Education, will work in conjunction with the school's Aboriginal Education Officer to support Aboriginal education initiatives across the school. Their duties will focus primarily on assisting teachers to support students in culturally based initiatives and to increase learning outcomes for Aboriginal students through personalised learning pathways.

  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to support personalised learning for Aboriginal students to achieve cultural, wellbeing and academic goals.
  • Ability to foster and develop relationships and partnerships with Aboriginal families, students and community members.

Who can apply

  • This is a designated Aboriginal position and confirmation of Aboriginality is required.
  •  Applicants must have a current Working with Children Check Clearance.
  • Completion of compliance training will be required by the Department of Education prior to commencement of position.
