On Friday, 4 May 2012 the Bennett Road debating team had their first debate in the school library as part of the R.A. Pickles Shield Debating Competition.
The topic up for debate was 'That school hours should be longer'. Bennett Road took the affirmative side (agreeing with the topic) while Minchinbury took the negative side (disagreeing with the topic).
Both teams had great arguments, rebuttled well and used evidence to support their arguments.
But in the end Bennett Road was successful in convincing the adjudicator 'That school hours should be longer'.
A huge congratulations to the debating team on their efforts.
The next debate will be against James Erskine Public School with the topic 'It is better to live in the city than the country'. Again Bennett Road will be arguing the affirmative side and James Erskine will be arguing the negative side.
